We provide free in-home consultations, and same day estimates emailed to you, as long as you are within our service area. We cover Central Texas/Austin, as well as surrounding areas. 

During a free in-home consultation, the factory representative will bring samples to you to show the shutters in your home. We also have a showroom located in Georgetown, Texas where you can see different configurations of the plantation shutters that we build, as well as the quality of the shutters and our installation. 

Yes! Southern Shutters will use any paint or stain that you specify, regardless of brand or formula. If that information is not available, we will custom -match the paint or stain, providing you with an actual sample of your paint or stain for your approval. No shutters are finished until you see and approve that sample. 

We use North American Basswood. All wood species used in manufacturing today have both good and bad qualities. The characteristics we like about North American Basswood is it’s stability, it does not warp! This quality is one of the factors that allow us to provide you with a lifetime transferable warranty. 

With all new shutter orders, our lead times range from 4-8 weeks, depending on the season and demand. The majority of installations are accomplished in one day, some larger jobs may take two days. We use only our trusted installers, not sub contractors.

We will build panels up  to 48 inches wide. We guarantee the structural stability of the shutter. The evolution of plantation shutters is bigger and more open (i.e., fewer visual obstructions), and we are doing whatever we can to give you what you want and back it with a lifetime transferable warranty.

We do use the highest quality paints and clear coats. Maintenance would be the same for your shutters as it is for your window sills. We recommend dusting with a lamb’s wool duster, or if more is required a damp cloth should do the trick.

Absolutely! Tilt-in windows can be convenient for accessing screens or cleaning the outside of the windows, but this feature can be challenging with shutters, which can block the tilt-in capability. With some treatment companies, you have choose between the tilt-in window or the shutter, but here at Southern Shutters, we have adapted treatment designs that allow you to continue using the tilt-in function while you also enjoy all the benefits of shutters.

The lifespan of shutters depends on several factors, including which company you turn to and how well you take care of them. Although shutters are a fairly simple product, when they are done correctly, they can last for the lifetime of the house. In fact, our customers from 30 years ago are still enjoying beautiful, durable shutters that look and work like the day they were installed! Yes, they are! When we prepare the shutters, we use oil-based paint, which puts a hard, protective finish on the shutters. This provides a smooth surface that is simple to clean. Plus, with wide louvers, you can easily fit your hand in between to dust or wipe down the louvers with a damp cloth on a regular basis.

Shutters are very energy efficient. Basswood, the material we use to manufacture our shutters, provides excellent insulation from the outside heat or cold. Instead of conducting the temperature into the room, the shutters absorb it while still blocking or allowing the light to come into the room. In fact, many customers report lower energy costs after shutter installation!
